Artists Upstairs is an educational arts organization devoted to the promotion and development of new works that explore the inter-relationship between movement, media, sound, visual arts and theatre.  Artists Upstairs is committed to revitalizing the downtown community by providing studio, meeting and classroom space, developmental and educational workshops, and public exhibits and performances. Into Action

We are a downtown hub of creative possibilities located upstairs at 937 Liberty Avenue and currently spreading down and out into the streets. The space is a community studio environment for cultural, educational and economic development by bringing people downtown to observe, interact, produce and talk about art. It is a studio and classroom for those who already reside downtown but lack a cohesive gathering space. ArtUp has begun to transform downtown in a vibrant urban gathering space- the concept is to create a mutually supportive cultural and economic development. The concept is to turn downtown Pittsburgh into a mutually supportive cultural and economic development, not only a place to gather for cultural events but also a commercial, residential, recreational and retail spot.

Artist-In-Residence

The Artists Upstairs consortium is in the process of developing a rotating residency program for resident artists or groups, creating a growing pool of artists in and out of the Pittsburgh area. Artists will be chosen by a panel. These performances, exhibitions and artists will increase visibility of the initiative, the resident artists, and program sponsors, as well as attract artists and those who appreciate art to downtown Pittsburgh. Do you want to create, experience the making of a show, assist the professionals, paint, help, dance, sing out loud?  Artists Upstairs offers several internship positions for Volunteers.
